One unexpected aspect of Spain was seeing the wild boars roam the city at night. Regular South Carolina wildlife, like squirrels and deer, are hard to come by. USC students have seen the boars rummaging through trash or crossing the road in the middle of the city during the night. The well-known singer, Shakira, was actually attacked by a wild boar in Barcelona in 2021. The boars are something few of us expected when coming to Spain. After a long night out on the town, seeing one of these animals on your way home is definitely jarring.
