The Frida Kahlo Exhibit was an immersive experience where visitors were able to become a part of her work. What set this art exhibit apart from others was our ability to not only see Kahlo’s art, but fully live in and experience her pieces. To bring Kahlo’s art to life, rooms were filled with projections of some of her most famous works, as well as the story of her life and career. During the immersion process, you could hear sounds of nature including those that matched with the pieces displayed around the room. One of these rooms included a narration of her life along with pictures and passages.
From visiting this exhibit, we learned that art doesn’t have to be a stagnant experience. Through immersive technology such as projections and VR headsets, we were able to not only appreciate the artwork, but also understand the intention behind her art. Frida Kahlo was a visionary in her lifetime, and through experiences such as these we were able to step into her shoes and understand the inner workings of her mind for ourselves.
