Baristas are artists too

Vanilla latte from Novela Cafe down the street from IAU

Latte art is widely practiced in Barcelona amongst all levels of talent. Something we have noticed is that coffee culture is something deeply cherished. One way they show their passion for coffee culture is through latte art. Latte art is a method of preparing coffee created by pouring a micro-foam of steamed milk into a shot of espresso. This results in a pattern on the surface of the shot. All types of lattes come with their flare, but something we have noticed is how much time they put into each drink. Yes, latte art is practiced in America however it is not as valued or perfected as it is here. It is not as appreciated in America because we tend to get iced coffee, and latte art only occurs in a hot latte. This is a significant part of their coffee culture, they do not drink iced coffee. Today, coffee shops are known for their intricate and creative latte art, reflecting the city’s love for coffee culture.
