SXSW Day 1!

Photo of Data Science session

What an adventure day one was. For me, it was my first time on a plane and also my first time navigating a city bigger than Columbia. We left Columbia at around 7am and ended up in Austin at around 1pm. I checked out a session titled “Do Good Data Science” presented by DataKind. This organization uses data science and artificial intelligence (AI) for social change and humanitarian organizations. They provided real world examples of their work- from community based care in central Florida, to machine learning and AI used to recognize wildlife based off unique identifying features (which was then paired with an AI program that crawls the web and locates videos or pictures of the wildlife and provides the community further information). It really set the tone for this adventure that we have embarked on. I can’t wait to learn more and share my experiences with others!
