Work out for me, Barcelona

Barcelona is known for its art, architecture, and paella, but it’s also a place for outdoor fitness if you know where to go. There are a few areas with outdoor gyms, mostly centered around the beach areas, and some are more challenging than you might expect. There’s the open-air setup near Barceloneta Beach that features straight metal bars and other calisthenics stations. Being pretty straightforward, it has pull-up bars, dips, and core exercises. Every time I’ve been to the beach, I tend to see many people getting a workout in, and although it can be crowded, the raw energy can be motivating.

There’s also the outdoor gym in Terratoga that’s a lot quieter and cleaner but it’s much smaller in size (pictured to the right) and is located further down the beach. It’s still open-air and public and seems to have newer equipment with more varied workout options like lower bars and vertical poles (not pictured) for different movements. The atmosphere here is more relaxed with less people; however with both options, the sea view radiates a wellness retreat feel. So whether you’re into bodyweight training or just like watching people workout, these beach gyms add a fun cool touch to Barcelona and can be more enjoyable than the usual indoor setting
