Exploring Tarragona feels like walking through a museum. The coastal city in northeastern Spain is filled with remnants of ancient Roman architecture and elements of Mediterranean life.
The city of Tarragona offers not only stunning views and rich history but also a variety of bars, tapas spots, and beaches. Visitors can enjoy a glass of sangria cava and some calamari at an outdoor restaurant, then walk just a few minutes to the ocean.
The Circ Roma was built in Tarragona in the first century A.D. and was used for chariot and horse races. It held up to 30,000 spectators and was a popular place to watch the sport across the Roman Empire. Races featured different teams, often representing various social factions.
