Scooting through the streets: the popularity of the Vespa

Is the metro taking too long? Are you going too far to walk? Then good thing the locals of Barcelona have embraced the Vespa as their preferred method of transportation. The Vespa can get you around Spain’s narrow streets quickly, safely, and help you avoid any traffic. Why wait behind a line of cars when you could move at your own pace?

With about 510,650 motorcycles in the Catalan capital, it’s clear the way to explore the city is by Vespa. Barcelona has one of the highest per capita bike, scooter and motorcycle usage rates in Europe. The city offers more than 90,000 parking spaces for motorbikes, taking away the inconvenience of having to circle around to park your vehicle or pay high parking fees. Also, there are several areas where you can park safely and free of charge.

To rent a Vespa, or Scooter, you must be in possession of a valid driving license and valid under the laws of Spain. Luckily, Barcelona boasts a vibrant Vespa rental scene, offering numerous options for both tourists and locals to explore the city on two wheels. Several reputable companies provide a range of scooters and services to suit various needs. Additionally, a helmet is required to provide crucial protection in the event of an accident and significantly reduce the risk of serious head injuries.
