Tucked away in Las Letras is a black door that says: “Ring the bell.” Behind it lies La Santoria, a hidden cocktail bar that doesn’t just offer drinks, but potions, making an immersive spiritual and cultural experience unlike any other in Madrid.
From the moment you enter, the atmosphere shifts. Candlelight flickers, shadows dance, and bartenders craft cocktails like rituals. Instead of choosing ingredients, you’re told to choose a drink based on the energy you seek. As we shared our hopes and struggles, we decided on our potions that were right for us. They arrived in mismatched crystal glasses, each with a red string charm that is a keepsake to remind us of our intentions.
As we finished our drinks, we realized that four hours had passed and only one “potion” had been drunk each. This made us realize that La Santoria isn’t about the hidden entrance or the alcohol, but about being present and savoring the experience.
