As international travelers, it can be overwhelming and often confusing to get your bearings for the first week: a new language, new customs, and new everything. Upon arrival in Barcelona, the feeling of “Where do I even begin?” can quickly grasp your mind. However, through discovering the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB), you can easily adjust to the rhythm of the city. It is more than a cultural organization; you can think of it as a portal into the heart of beautiful Barcelona.
Located in La Rambla and approximately a seven-minute walk from the Cathedral de Barcelona, the ICUB offers various insights into a range of cultural activities and initiatives, such as supporting emerging talent and citizen projects. It is entirely free upon entry, and upon walking in, you’re met with the first floor, which is an art gallery where you’re not permitted to take any pictures. The museum is located upstairs, where you’re allowed to take photos of the different displays and exhibits presented to you.
In the museum, you’ll notice a wide variety of cultural pieces, as well as signs and pamphlets in Spanish. A pro tip for reading these signs and pamphlets is to install Google Translate on your device and take a picture of the specific sign(s) you’re interested in. There, you can read a translation of what it reads. Throughout the visit, you’ll undoubtedly be blown away by the diverse modern artistic expressions and its rich cultural heritage.
