A masterpiece in progress: Exploring Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia

Located in the Eixample neighborhood of Barcelona, the Sagrada Familia stands tall with 18 intricate spires and detailed stone engravings. Designed by the famous Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí, what was meant to be a simple Church transformed into the grand Basilica that can be seen today. Despite still being under construction, the iconic structure is Barcelona’s most visited landmark and attracts millions of visitors a year.

Intricate carvings on the exterior of the Basilica depict elaborate biblical scenes, with three distinct facades. The building features 18 individual spires that represent the 12 apostles, four evangelists, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus Christ. Once completed, the Sagrada Familia is set to be the tallest church building in the world, standing at an impressive 172.5 meters tall.

Inside the structure, sunlight shines through stained-glass windows, creating colorful projections that fill the space with red, blue, and green hues. Tall columns throughout exhibit more detailed stonework and captivate viewers from around the world.

Book tickets early, as they sell out quickly, and don’t miss the gift shop. La Sagrada Família is more than a landmark, it’s an unforgettable part of any trip to Barcelona!
